Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
We offer a unique program for kids that will not only provide your child with the necessary skills to defend themselves; they will also gain unmeasurable benefits that will help them in many areas of their life. Jiu-Jitsu is not only a proven method of self-defense, but it is also a competitive sport. We also offer your child the opportunity to be on a competitive team and compete across the country.
Your child will learn real-world techniques that will help them to defend themselves in dangerous situations. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu’s focus is to teach students who are smaller and weaker to defend themselves against a larger, stronger assailant. While we teach students that the first choice is to avoid conflict all together, we will prepare them with the skills required to protect themselves in situations that cannot be avoided.
Each class is structured to begin with a warm-up that may include running, jumping jacks, bear crawls, etc. Following the warm-up are techniques and drills which will challenge the muscles and cardiovascular system. Martial artists are known for being tone and physically fit.
Your child will naturally gain self confidence as they work their way through the belt system and progress. Our belt system provides children measurable goals to follow that are realistic to attain. Your child will gain a sense of self accomplishment by mastering new techniques and earning belts that will follow them throughout their life.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instills mental focus in your child. Your child will learn how to concentrate on learning a technique, and see it through.
All martial arts put strong emphasis on respect. Your child will learn to bow to their instructors, as well as bow before leaving or entering the mat area. Students will learn to treat other students the way they would want to be treated. We will also continuously impress upon your child the importance to show respect to parents, teachers and peers in their everyday lives.
Your child will be responsible for wearing the proper uniform, taking care of their belt and their record book. Not following the guidelines may result in delayed progression. Progression through our ranking system is not only dependent upon a student’s ability, but also their dedication to their training and responsible behavior.
The grading system is aligned with the new IBJJF youth grading system that was implemented in 2012. This system provides our youth students continuous opportunity to advance throughout the year by learning the techniques taught in class and through regular attendance. Each student has the opportunity to earn belts each year and earn stripes throughout the year.
What is the belt system in Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
The Youth program enables students to earn a new belt each year and three stripes per quarter. The belt colors are white, grey/white, grey, grey/black, yellow/white, yellow, yellow/black, orange/white, orange, orange/black, green/white, green and green/black. Students under the age of 16 fall within the youth category.
